Steve Shivery, a life-long resident of Christiana, began working at the Brown Funeral Homes at the age of 12. Jewell (King) Shivery grew-up on a dairy farm in Cochranville. Steve and Jewell are 1984 Graduates of Octorara Area High School and 1987 Graduates of Northampton County Area Community College. Both Steve and Jewell hold a Funeral Director’s License in Pennsylvania. They have 4 children, 18 grandchildren, and have been married 38 years. Steve and Jewell attend Gateway Church. They are involved with other area ministries and organizations as well including Christiana Lions Club, Quarryville Library, Solid Rock, Christiana Planning Commission and Steve is the Chairman of the Christiana Borough Authority. Steve enjoys woodworking and landscaping in his free time. Jewell enjoys sewing, quilting, puzzles, and helping with the grandchildren. The Shiverys reside at the Christiana funeral home.

Blake and Chelcie Shivery, Directors

Blake, (3rd Shivery child) has been working at the funeral home since he was 12 years old.  He and Chelcie have been married 11 years.  They met at Northampton Community College while in the funeral service program and are both licensed funeral directors.  Blake and Chelcie are both actively involved with the business. They attend Freedom Life and they host a small group. Blake is also part of the Paradise Leacock Cemetery Board. Chelcie owns and operates the Vintage Boutique Flower Shop in Paradise and currently does all of the funeral home flowers. They live in Paradise with their 5 children, Haven, Lincoln, Emsley, Thorson, and Canella. Blake enjoys spending time with his family, golfing and watching Philly Sports.

Grace (oldest Shivery child) and Jordan Frey have been married for 12 years. Grace does office work for the funeral homes. She has named herself the Office Administrator. She graduated from Goldey Beacom College with her Bachelors Degree in Accounting. She works part-time for Wenger and Company CPA which has offices in Christiana and Quarryville. She is also the Reservation Coordinator for Chantry Place. She is also actively involved with the Christiana Lions Club serving as treasurer and is also treasurer serving on the Maple Grove Preschool Board. Jordan is a licensed funeral director. He graduated from Northampton Community College. The Freys live in Christiana and Jordan is on the Borough Council. They attend the Worship Center. They are blessed to parent 2 daughters, Huxleigh and Maggie and 3 sons, Nash, Ripp, and Oaks.  Jordan enjoys hunting, golfing and his family.

Dan and Maddy Payne, Pippa, Bowen and Wellington

Dan Payne, Funeral Director


Dan and Maddy Payne were married in May of 2018. They have a daughter, Pippa, 2 sons, Bowen and Wellington, and are expecting Baby Payne in the fall. Dan began working for the funeral home in May of 2021 when their family moved back to Pennsylvania after living in North Carolina for a few years. Dan and Maddy are both from Lancaster County. Dan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of Arizona Global Campus and has his funeral service degree from Northampton County College. Maddy graduated from Millersville University with a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education and is putting it to good use as she raises her little ones. They live in Christiana and attend Wesley Church in Quarryville. Dan enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and watching the Eagles. 

Murray Miller, Funeral Director



Murray is a lifelong resident of Lancaster County, living his entire life in the Strasburg area. A 1975 graduate of Lampeter-Strasburg High School, he received his degree at Northampton County Community College in Mortuary Science where he received the Outstanding Mortuary Science Student Award upon graduation. He has been a licensed funeral director since 1982. His wife, Susan von der Luft was a retired teacher for the Lampeter-Strasburg School District and currently works part-time at American Music Theater. They have a daughter, Dr. Taylor Albanese who is a CRNA at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Both he and Susan are active members at First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, where Murray is an ordained elder, usher, and chairman of the Memorial Garden. He is also a member and past president of the Strasburg Lions Club. He enjoys landscaping, being outdoors and doing projects around the house. Together he and Susan enjoy going to the beach, weekend get-aways, and traveling to new places.

Jeff Martin, Associate


Jeff met Steve and Jewell shortly after they began attending Calvary Monument Bible Church and he started working part-time at Shivery Funeral Home in 2005. Jeff was born in Gordonville and has lived within a ten mile radius all of his life. After graduating from Pequea Valley High School, he received his certification in Auto Mechanics from The Thaddeus Stevens Trade School in 1974. Jeff married his wife, Vickie, in 1975. Their son and his wife have four boys. Jeff served as a Leacock Township Supervisor for 20 years and has been involved in various ministries at his church over the past 25 years. In his spare time, Jeff enjoys watching motorsports and doing yard work.
