Anna P.
Sweigart
June 26, 1933 – September 27, 2024
Anna P. Sweigart, age 91, of Gap, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024 peacefully at home with family. She was the wife of the late Calvin G. Sweigart who died March 11, 1995. Born June 26, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary Macareth Pratt. Anna was an active member in Robert Fulton Order of the Eastern Star, Quarryville, where she was a past Matron. She focused her Eastern Star outreach to decades of planning events at the Coatesville VA Hospital where she would fundraise, organize and host bingos, ball games, picnics and parades for veterans. Anna lived her life simple, always hunting a bargain, and turning a nickel into a dime. The building she lived in was formerly The Marsh General Store but she converted the property into apartments, still rented today. During her ownership of the building she operated Sweigart's Bed and Breakfast, dabbled in antiques/clutter with her shop, and rented apartments for a number of years, in addition to working at RCA. She enjoyed life, freedom, independence, driving her car too fast, being on the go non-stop and she loved her crab legs! She knew her value, never backed down, and fiercely stood her ground once her dander was raised. She worked hard her entire life with nothing given to her, only receiving what she earned. She was free-spirited, traveling to Sturgis by motorcycle in her 70's. She loved sunsets from her step-son's condo or beach home in Maryland and eating more crab legs with family! Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have fond memories of annual trips to Disney with her, where she was able to be a kid again. Anna never retired and continued doing what she enjoyed. She was kind, caring and was loved by many friends, neighbors and family who she loved right back.
She is survived by her daughter, Penny Jo Sweigart of Gap, step-son Jeffrey A. Sweigart of Manheim, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly S. Weir and brother, Herbert Pratt.
