William Jack, Jr. passed away at his home in Willow Street, Pennsylvania, on March 17,, 2025. Born on February 11, 1940 in Wilmington, Delaware, Bill was the son of the late William Jack, Sr. and Dorothy Mitchell Jack. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Clark Jack.
Bill is survived by his wife, Gail, his sister Violet Chilcoat, his son William Jack, III (Kathleen), his stepdaughter Tracy Harris (Evan), and his grandchildren William and Meredith Jack and Jason and Leah Harris.
Bill grew up in Wilmington. He was an accomplished swimmer and enjoyed working as a lifeguard at the YMCA and at camps during the summer. After graduating from high school, he played football at Sanford Prep School in Wilmington, Delaware where he made lifelong friends. He later served in the U.S. Army. Following his military service he moved to Oxford, Pennsylvania. Bill had a passion for horses and became an owner/ breeder of Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds. His horses competed in track and steeplechase races. Following the passing of his wife Shirley, he and his young son moved to a farm where they raised cattle. Bill then began working in real estate and became a broker. He worked for Sylvania Lighting after retiring from real estate.
Bill had many interests. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed renovating old homes in Lancaster County. He was very interested in history and learning about Native American culture. After his retirement he raised Dorper sheep. Bill became well known for breeding high quality sheep and was a valuable resource sharing his knowledge within the region. In his later years, he became interested in genealogy and traced his family history back several generations. He loved sharing stories about what he had found in his research. He will be missed by family and friends.
A memorial service will take place from Chantry Place, 15 N. Bridge Street Christiana, PA 17509 on Saturday, March 29th at 12 noon with a time to greet the family from 11:30 am until time of service. Burial will be private.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made in Bill's memory to the American Diabetes Association.
