Obituary

William D. "Bill" Herr, 92, of West Stanton Road, Quarryville, PA died peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 7, 2015. He and his wife Vera McCrabb Herr celebrated 71 years of marriage.Born in Kirkwood, he was the son of the late John H. and Helen Whiteside Herr.
Bill retired in 1984 after 42 years of service from the Safe Harbor Power Plant where he rose from 1st Pumpman to superintendent of operations.
His career was interrupted for 2 years by WWII when he was inducted into the US Army, serving in England, France, and Germany with the rank of 1st Sergeant in Company "B" 336th Engineering Combat Battalion being honorably discharged and returning to his career at Safe Harbor.
Bill was a member of Quarryville Memorial United Methodist Church, Washington Lodge #156 Free & Accepted Masons, the Solanco Sportsman Club, Tanglewood Golf Club and Stoney Battery Hunting Club.
His hobbies included bowling, golf, hunting, and enjoying the cabin in the mountains in Centre County.
Surviving beside his wife Vera is a daughter Barbara E. Long of Quarryville; a son W. David (Melissa) Herr of Quarryville; 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother S. Charles (Doris) Herr of Quarryville; and 4 sisters Eleanor M. KIle of New Providence, Dorothy D. Herr of Kirkwood, Verna Herr of Kirkwood, Emily L. Huber of Millersville.
Bill was preceded in death by a daughter Joyce Trout; 2 siblings, Helen E. Aument and John M. Herr, a grandson Jeffrey C. Long and a son in law James C. Long.
Funeral services will be held at Memorial United Methodist Church, 101 South Hess Street, Quarryville, PA on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 11:00AM with Pastors Shauna Ridge and R. Blake Deibler officiating.Interment will be in Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00AM until the time of service.
