Thomas W. Ferguson, Jr., 88, of Street Road, Kirkwood, PA, went to be with his Lord and daughter Kathy on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Q.P.R.C.He was the husband of Jane Sprout Ferguson.They had celebrated 67years of marriage.
Tom was a farmer, and had also retired from the US Postal Service after 35 years as a rural mail carrier for Kirkwood.
Tom had proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII, serving aboard the destroyer John R. Pierce DD753.Ports included; New York, Bermuda, Norfolk, Panama, San Diego, Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, China, Guam, and San Francisco.His ship had the first liberty party on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.He had traveled over 61 thousand miles on the water.
He was a lifetime member of Union Presbyterian Church, Kirkwood, PA.He had served as a church trustee, and was active with the Ground Zero Youth Group.
Tom enjoyed hunting and country music.He was also a member of Oxford VFW.
He was born in Kirkwood, PA, a son of the late T. Walter and Zeeda Hess Ferguson.
In addition to his wife Jane, he is survived by a son, Dr. T. Joseph Ferguson and his wife Laurie, Escondido, CA,4 grandsons; Sam, Maryland, Scout, Skyler, Zane, California, siblings; Evelyn Ohrel,Rev. John L.Ferguson and wife Valaria,and cousin and good friend Susan Glass, wife of Dr. Joseph Glass.He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Ferguson, siblings; Aileen Sill, Alma Jackson, and Louis Ferguson.
The Funeral Service will be held at Union Presbyterian Church, 5637 Street Road, Kirkwood, PA on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. with Pastor Blake Deibler officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 6-7:00 P.M.A private traditional burial will be in the Union Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Union Presbyterian youth group; c/o Ground Zero Youth Group, 5637 Street Road, Kirkwood, PA17536.The family is forever grateful for the kindness and caring given by the entire staff at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community during Tom's stay.
