Shirley J. "Lee" Swayne, age 95, of Parkesburg, PA formerly of Surf City, NJ, passed away at the Ephrata Hospital on Saturday, January 7, 2023. She was the wife of the late Calvin V. "Bud" Swayne, who passed away on December 4, 2012. She was born in Gloucester City, NJ, daughter of the late Frederick & Emma Kane Garwood. She graduated from Glassboro State Teachers College and then from Drexel University with a Masters Degree in Library Science. She was a teacher at Beach Haven Elementary School and a librarian at Long Beach Island Elementary School District, and also a traveling instructor for the US government. She enjoyed both teaching and learning all throughout her life, doing various volunteer work for non profits and supporting Bud and her family in every way possible. Surviving are 2 children: Dr. Lawrence husband of Carol Swayne of New Hope, PA, Linda wife of Larry Lukacs of Parkesburg, 4 grandchildren: Beverly Swayne, Kathryn wife of Andrew Thompson, Brian Swayne, William husband of Bethany Lukacs, 5 great grandchildren: Oliver, Li-Eun, Milo Thompson and Theodore & Ava Lukacs. Also surviving is a brother Frederick Charles Garwood, II of Pilesgrove, NJ.
A private family service will take place at the convenience of the family.
