Shelba Jean
Eberly
September 28, 1939 – July 23, 2025
When Shelba Jean Eberly entered a room, laughter and lively conversation ensued. Soon, you would realize that she knew your family's history better than you knew it. This was especially true if you had ties to her beloved Southern End. From that bucolic setting of peaceful farmland, she quietly passed away on July 23, 2025, at the age of 85. SHELBA Eberly was the wife of the late Jay F. Eberly. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Martin H. and late Nina Sowers Eshleman. Shelba was an active member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church and received high accolades for her faithfulness and leadership from organizations such as the Order of the Eastern Star and Soroptimist International. A beautician, she owned and operated a beauty shop for over 60 years. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, crafting, cooking, bowling, golfing, finishing complicated puzzles, and creatively decorating for endless community and church events. Eager to use her God-given talents to bless others, you could always count on Shelba to get the job done. In addition to family time, she also looked forward to weekly after-church luncheons with her local widowed friends. She was happiest, though, when cuddling a newborn great- grandbaby or cheering for a grandkid who just scored a point. She is survived by three sons: Gary Eberly (Kathy Eberly) of Lancaster, PA; Scot Eberly of Ocean Pines, MD; Jeffrey Eberly (Jodi Robinson) of Newtown, PA; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and six siblings: Fred Eshleman (the late Patricia Eshleman) of Ephrata, PA; Pat Hess (Bob Hess) of Willow Street, PA; Sib Crawford (Ron Crawford) of Lancaster, PA; Barb Lefever of Wrightsville, PA; Marty Sensenig (Jack Sensenig) of Drumore, PA, and Judy Dombach (the late Terry Dombach) of Lancaster, PA.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville, PA, on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 3 p.m. with a Visitation in the church sanctuary at 2 p.m. until time of service. Interment is private in the adjoining cemetery. Pastor John Hartman will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Shelba's memory to an organization of your choice. Please give your grandkids a hug whenever you think of Shelba Eberly.
