Obituary

Robert M White of Columbia, formerly of Mount Joy,  passed away at home on  November 30th from natural causes.  Bob was born at home in Newlin Township, Chester County, on November 17, 1937, to Carl Estel and Dorothy Grace Hensel White.  At that time, he joined siblings Raymond (already deceased), Pete, Tom, Pat and Gloria.  In the six years following his birth, he was joined by siblings Sharon, Linda, Bill and Mitch. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959.  In 1958 he married Faye Warfel and they had two children, Kathleen and David.   Following their divorce, he married Patricia Murray and they would have been married 54 years on December 31st. Bob retired from then PP&L after 25 years of service in 1993, where he started in construction and worked his way to First Class Underground Repairman.  An avid and successful hunter, he enjoyed hunting in PA and Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Alberta Canada, Missouri and Iowa.  He was a life member of the NRA and a member of the Mount Joy Sportsmen's Association.  He also was a collector of military items and was known for his knowledge of the Springfield rifles.  For many years Bob and Pat enjoyed the cabin in Juniata County they built and co-owned with "brother" John Geltmacher and his wife Janet.  When asked what his grandchildren should call him, he thought a few minutes, then said "Old Man" but it has to be done with respect, and it was.  He was affectionately called "Pop-Pop" by his great grandchildren.  Bob was predeceased by his parents, brothers Raymond, Pete, Tom and Mitch and by his sisters Pat Derr and Gloria, great grandson Daniel Herr and by his Korean daughter-in-law  Hoe Chong White.  He is survived by, in addition to his wife, Kathleen and David; grandchildren Pam Herr (Scott), Charles Raffensberger (Elizabeth),  David Raffensberger,  Matthew Raffensberger (Adela) and Shawn Raffensberger (Shella);  and great grandchildren Katie, Kyah and Lilly Herr and Chloe, Autumn and Chuck Raffensberger.  Bob was a generous, hard working man who loved  the outdoors and who will be missed by his extended family and friends with fondness and laughter.

At his request, there will be no services.

I leave you with this thought to keep- I am with you still, I do not sleep.  I am a thousand winds that blow.  I am a diamond glint on snow.  I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain.  When you awaken in the morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night.  Do not think of me as gone- I am with you still in each new dawn.
