Robert E. Smith, age 70 of Atglen, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023 at the Lancaster General Hospital.  He was the husband of Julia Gifford Smith with whom he celebrated 48 years of marriage on June 8th. Born in Downingtown, he was the son of the late Earl F. and Shirley Ann Pfitzenmeyer Smith.  He graduated from Downingtown High School and then honorably served his country in the United States Navy, stationed in Oceana, Virginia Beach, VA.  After he was discharged from the Navy he worked at Del Toyota then on to warehouse for HDI in West Grove and then upon retirement Walmart for over 10 years.  Robert enjoyed classic cars, watching car races and Battle Bots, cooking and trying new recipes, going to Virginia Beach, and spending time with his family and his dog Willie.  Surviving besides his wife are 3 children: Gerald Smith husband of Mary Dooley of South Carolina, Megan, wife of Jim Cummings of Quarryville, and Ashley, wife of David Savage of Atglen, 6 grandchildren: Tyler, A.J., Kady, Hunter, Jonnelle, and Josie, 2 step grandchildren: Justin and Mackenzie, 1 great grandchild, Ethan, 1 great grandson on the way, and a brother: David S. Smith of VA.  He was preceded in death by his parents and twin siblings: Kenneth and Kimberly.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA to assist the family with funeral expenses.
