Obituary

RobertA. Eberly died March 25, 2014, in Reading Hospital, with family and friends by his side.
Born August 18, 1929, he was the son of the late John J. and Laura K. (Meck) Eberly. He grew up on the family farm in Camargo, Lancaster County, attending the nearby one-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Quarryville High School and took a job with an electrical utility contractor before serving proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was married to Mary (Shenk) Eberly, who predeceased him, for 42 years.
After the war, Bob embarked on a career with PP&L (now PPL) that spanned 44 years and took him to assignments in Lancaster and Berks counties. He retired in 1991.
Upon retirement, Bob devoted his energies to caring for others. He was an avid vegetable gardener who singlehandedly planted and maintained a massive plot, sharing the bounty with others.He was a fixture in his neighborhood, helping friends maintain their properties and looking after the elderly.
Bob was a dedicated member of St. John's (Hain's) United Church of Christ in Wernersville, where he served on the Consistory several times. He was a proud member of the Washington Lodge #156 F&AM Masonic Lodge in Quarryville, where he earned his 50-year membership pin.
Bob is survived by two daughters:Cathy L. Eberly and husband, Bill Howerton, of Keswick, VA, and Tina E. Kissell and husband, Larry, of Biscoe, NC; three grandchildren: Jenny Leigh Kissell Gooch and husband, Garrett, of Biscoe, NC, Andrew Eberly-Howerton, of Keswick, and Aspen Kissell, of Biscoe; sister Naomi Connor, wife of Frank Connor, of Quarryville; a number of nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends, including special friends from his church and the crew at Giannotti's Restaurant.
Services will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014, at 2:00 P.M. at Zion United Church of Christ, 900 Winter Hill Road, New Providence, PA, where Bob was baptized and he and Mary married, and where he served on the Consistory as a young man. Visitation will be one hour prior from 1-2:00 P.M.Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Memorial contributions in Bob's memory may me made to St. John's (Hain"s) United Church of Christ, 591 North Church Road, Wernersville, PA.Arrangements entrusted to Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA.
