Phyllis F.
Ladrew
February 16, 1946 – February 24, 2024
Phyllis F. LaDrew, age 78 of Coatesville, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at her home. Born in Paoli, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Clara Folk. Phyllis put herself through school, earning a bachelors degree in Biology, followed by a masters in Special Education and a doctorate in Educational Leadership. While finishing her doctorate, she worked full time and raised two daughters with her husband Ed. Her passion was education. She was the founder of two small private schools with emphasis on hands on learning and was ahead of her time in her approach to students who struggled to thrive in "traditional" settings. After retiring from the Twin Valley School District, she volunteered at Coatesville Kids to College as Education Specialist. She loved her kids! When she was not serving her community and family, she enjoyed bird watching, tending to her small jungle of house plants, and spending time with her grandchildren, Paul, Jonathan, and Elyse Hansel, and Joshua, Caleb, Noah, and Nathan Taylor- who knew her as Nunny. She was exceptionally involved in their lives; her daughters couldn't imagine getting through the ups and downs of mothering without having her always standing by ready to "make things better." Finally, Nunny was passionate in christian faith, and those who knew her well, knew that she was generous without fault. The beginning of Philippians 2 embodied her life. "So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility, count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interest of others." Philippians 2:1-4. She leaves behind 2 daughters; Christine Hansel Embry, wife of Christopher Embry, and Laurie LaDrew Taylor, wife of Dinesh Taylor, both of Coatesville, 7 grandchildren, and a brother; Howard, husband of Carol Folk of Coatesville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Folk, Jr.
