Obituary

Nancy Lea (Jones) Pfahler passed away in Lancaster, PA on March 12, 2024, surrounded by her family.  This was her 84th birthday.  She was preceded in death by her parents H.L. (Buddy) Jones and Betty Jones of Bristol, VA and her loving husband of 56 years, Thomas Pfahler, Jr. Nancy is survived by three sons: Thomas Pfahler III of Hughesville, Ronnie Pfahler (Kelle) of Paradise and Karl Pfahler Sr. of Lewisberry; as well as seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four siblings: Donald Jones, Betsy Applegate, Charles Jones and Lea Jones. She was born and raised in Bristol, VA and graduated from Bristol Virginia High and Radford Teacher's College (Radford University).  She moved to Pottstown, PA and taught for two years then began her career with Pequea Valley where she finished in 1998 with 33 years of service. An active member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Paradise, Nancy attended Sunday school, rang the church bell, read scriptures, sent caring cards to members and helped with fundraising. She had an adventurous spirit!  She was the first woman in Lancaster County to get her hot air balloon license, she rode her own motorcycle throughout the 60s and 70s and traveled extensively in the US, Europe and to her favorite destination, Newfoundland.  In her later years, she and Tom took many cross-country trips in her beloved 61' Studebaker Lark, and after he passed, the Lark adventures continued with her going on her own cross-country trips. She was a member of many clubs including the Studebaker Driver's Club, Keystone Region Chapter as well as the Antique Studebaker Club, with her having hosted many of their fall roundup lunches.  She was involved with the Studebaker National Foundation and the VMCC Vintage Motor Car Club.  She was a member of the Paradise Lions Club and the Mary Ferree Society, among others. One of her biggest joys came from spending time with her family and friends.  She hosted wonderful get-togethers and loved going out for ice cream.  She touched the lives of many in her role as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, neighbor and teacher.  She blessed our hearts.

A memorial service will take place from St John's United Methodist Church, 3001 Lincoln Hwy E, Paradise, PA, on Saturday, March 23rd at 11 AM with a visitation from 10 AM until time of service. There will also be visitation time at the church on Friday evening from 6-8 PM. Interment will be in Paradise Mennonite Cemetery.
