Miriam Elizabeth Shuffelbottom Hess woke up in Heaven, Monday morning, November 26, 2018.She was greeted by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and by John, her husband of 70 years, and son Gary who both preceded her. Mim was born in Lancaster, a daughter of the late John L. and Elizabeth Kale Shuffelbottom.
She was a charter member of Lampeter United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, Bible school and women's group. She also taught Child Evangelism/Good News Club.
Miriam had previously worked for the former RCA Company before having children. After she raised her 5 children she worked for both the former Dagen's and Darrenkamp's Grocery Stores until she was 86.
She was a great homemaker. She loved canning and freezing vegetables from her own garden.She was a great cook and baker.For many years she would bake dozens and dozens of many types of Christmas cookies and give them to family and friends.She also loved watching and listening to the Bill Gaither Gospel tapes and CD's.
Surviving her are 4 children, Karen Jean (Glenn P.) McGaw of Conestoga, Rodney Allan (Becky Dearoff) Hess of Willow Street, Joyce E. (John G.) Bice of Mount Joy, Joan Elizabeth Chappelle of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a daughter in law Susan Hess: a son in law Marc Chappelle; 2 brothers, John L. Shuffelbottom and Howard Shuffelbottom; and a sister Evelyn.
In addition to her being preceded in death by her husband John and son Gary, was a brother Richard Shuffelbottom.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Conestoga View and Hospice & Community Care for their care over the past two years.
Funeral services will be held at Lampeter United Methodist Church, 1651 Book Road, Lampeter, PA on
Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 11:00AM with Rev. Dr. John G.
