Merle W. Reedy, 84, of Buck Heights Road, Quarryville, PA died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Lancaster General Hospital.He was the husband of Mildred W. Carter Reedy.Born in New Market, VA, he was the son of the late Phillip E. and Julia May Crider Reedy.
Merle was a former truck driver for Musser's Feed Mill for 23 years, then worked as a custodian at Solanco High School for 22 years, from which he retired in 2002.After retirement, Merle worked part time for his brother, Phillip, as a carpenter.
He was a 50+ member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church where he served as both an usher and trustee.
Merle served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed hunting, wood working, and model trains and layouts.
Surviving beside his wife are three daughters, Peggy A. Reedy of Drumore, Judy L. (William) Krause of Conowingo, MD, Connie F. (David) Hanten of Holtwood; 6 grandchildren, Scott Reath, Stacia Tottorellia, Larry Krause, Charlie Krause, Aaron Smith, Rachel Yellets; 4 great grandchildren, Amy Reath, Phoenix Smith, Esabella Yellets, Lily Smith; and a sister Virginia Maxey of Lancaster.He was preceded in death by his brothers Cleo, Raymond, Joseph, Melvin, Phillip, Jr., Charles, and Jacob and a sister Lucille.
Funeral services will be held at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville, PA on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at 3:00PM with Rev. Dr. Michael R. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery with military honors.Viewings will be held at the church on Friday (TONIGHT) from 7:00-9:00PM and again on Saturday from 2:00PM until the time of service.
