Melvin J. Hornberger

Melvin J. Hornberger, age 83, of East Earl, passed away at the Neffsville Nursing & Rehabilitaion Center on Sunday, August 2, 2026. He was the husband of Ruth G. Burkholder Gehr Hornberger with whom he celebrated 28 years of marriage on May 22nd and the late Sharon L. Crawford Hornberger who passed away on December 4, 1996. He was born in Manheim Twp., son of the late Irvin & Lena Haas Hornberger. He had attended Bridgeville E.C. Church of Narvon. He retired from the Christiana Machine Shop of Christiana. He enjoyed working on antique cars, attending car shows, vacationing with family — especially at the cabin and the Lake House — and spending time with family, especially the little ones. He also enjoyed old TV shows like The Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., and listening to Dr. David Jeremiah's sermons. Those who cared for him at Neffsville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center remember him as a pleasure to be around, always happy and good-natured. Surviving besides his wife are 4 step children: Nancy wife of Galen Weaver of East Earl, Ruth wife of Scott Troop of New Holland, Glenn E. husband of Michelle Middleton Gehr of East Earl, Arthur L. Jr. husband of Nicolle Johnson Gehr of East Earl, 9 step grandchildren, 14 step great grandchildren, sister Joyce Canipe of Conestoga. He was preceded in death by 7 siblings: Harold, Herbert, Clarence Hornberger, Virginia Haldeman, Betty Hornberger, Erma Horst and Donna Shradley. 

Funeral service will take place at the Bridgeville E.C. Church, 5971 Division Hwy., Narvon, on Friday, August 7th at 11 a.m. with Pastor Galen Burkholder officiating. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Rancks United Methodist Cemetery. Please omit flowers.
