Mary A. Witmer Brown, 87, of Akron, PA passed away peacefully on May 9th, 2019 at her home.
Born in West Lampeter Township, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Minerva Kreider Witmer. After living in Tioga County for many years, Mary returned to Lancaster County in 1995.For most of her life, Mary loved serving others by waitressing and most recently worked at the Green Acres Laundromat.Her love of life and laughter was contagious resulting in many friendships.
Mary was a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church, serving as a greeter and active in the LadiesSewing Circle. She also volunteered at Ephrata Re-Uzit Shop.
Mary was widowed in 1994 by her husband of 13 years, Victor "Brownie" Brown.She is survived by 2 brothers, Harold of Manheim, Raymond of Lewistown, and a sister Jane Siegrist of Leola.She was preceded in death by 4 siblings, Marian Wenger, Hansel Witmer, Jay Gilbert Witmer, and Miriam Lehman.She was the beloved aunt to 31 nieces and nephews in addition to many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
We would like to thank all the family, friends, caregivers and Asana Hospice who provided Mary with in-home care over the past 9 weeks.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Stumptown Mennonite Church, 2813 Stumptown Road, Bird In Hand, PA on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 11:00AM.Interment will be in Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend viewings at the church on Monday from 6:00-8:00PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00AM until the time of service.
Contributions may be made in Mary's memory to Stumptown Benevolent Fund or to the Mennonite Central Committee, 21 South 12th Street, Akron, PA 17501.
