Lorraine Herr, age 85, of Quarryville, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. She was a resident at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community for the last three months. She was the wife of P. Gordon Herr for 65 years on April 1st.
Born on Thanksgiving Day, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Florence Hess. She was a graduate of Solanco High School and Millersville State Teachers College, earning a degree in elementary education. Lorraine worked for many years as a substitute teacher for the Solanco School District.
Lorraine attended and was a member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church for over 75 years. She was affectionately called “MomMom” by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved family gatherings and dinners. She also loved any opportunity to hold one of the babies and read books to the older children. She loved card games and was a feisty Rook player. She was very talented as a pianist, organist, and clarinetist. She loved to crochet blankets for her great-grandchildren and lap robes for residents of nursing homes. Gordon and Lorraine enjoyed collecting antiques and hosting their ever-growing family, who often stopped by their home. She loved to sew, go out to breakfast, and make encouraging calls to her friends.
She is survived by her loving husband; three children: Debra (Carl Drexel), Thomas (Karen Dempsey), and Andrew; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Betty (Richard Conrad). She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter Georgia Weder and a brother, Steven Hess.
The family would like to thank the staff of Pondview, Second Floor Thompson at QPRC, for the excellent care they gave Lorraine throughout her stay.
A funeral service will be held at Little Britain Presbyterian Church, 255 Little Britain Church Rd., Peach Bottom, PA 17563, on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with a time to greet the family from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery immediately following the service.
