Kaye Hood
Pollock
July 2, 1934 – April 16, 2026
Dr. Kaye Hood Pollock, former principal of Conestoga High School in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District, died on April 16, 2026, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, the day of her late husband Charles's birthday. She was a graduate of McCaskey High School in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, and earned her undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University, graduating first in her class. While in college, she met Charles Wagner Pollock; they married after graduation and both pursued careers in education. He predeceased her in May 2018. They had two children, Derek and Jill. Dr. Pollock enjoyed a long career in education as a teacher and guidance counselor. Her most significant contributions came in the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District, where she served as guidance counselor, acting assistant principal, dean of studies. assistant superintendent, and ultimately principal of Conestoga High School. She was the first female high school principal in Chester County. She earned her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Pennsylvania while working and raising her children. Her doctoral thesis, My Mom Works, examined the impact of dual-income households on children and how to support their success—work that reflected a lifelong commitment to helping families navigate education and development. In 1987, she graduated alongside her daughter Jill, who received her bachelor's degree in the same ceremony. Dr. Pollock believed every child deserved the right support and the right school to thrive. This belief shaped both her career and her parenting. She guided her own children with care and intention and extended that same commitment to countless students, approaching their futures with a sense of stewardship and responsibility. She was an accomplished artist, avid reader and traveler, and a person of deep faith who found comfort in prayer. She loved her family fiercely. Dr. Pollock is survived by her son, Derek Pollock, and his wife, Evan Pollock; her daughter, Jill Burgard, and her husband, Stephen Burgard; five grandchildren: Meredith Lind, Samantha Pollock, Alexandra Burgard, Quinn Burgard, and Colton Pollock—and a soon-to-be great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Communities In Schools, a nonprofit dedicated to helping students overcome barriers and succeed in school and life. This reflects her lifelong commitment to supporting children, especially those in working families, in building strong educational foundations. A graveside service will be held at Strasburg Cemetery, Strasburg, PA on Friday, May 8th at 12 noon. She will be remembered most for the love she gave her family and the steady guidance she offered to every child to provide a strong start in life. Arrangements entrusted to Murray A. Miller
