Julia R. Smith, age 67, of Atglen, passed away at the Kadima Rehab & Nursing Center of Lititz on Tuesday, August 1, 2023.  She was the wife of the late Robert E. Smith, who passed away on January 30, 2023, they had been married for over 48 years.  She was born in Coatesville, daughter of the late Gerald & Ethel Mae Shields Gifford.  She graduated from Coatesville High School class of 1974.  Early in her working career she worked as a nurses aid and then later provided transportation to the Amish community for over 20 years. She loved collecting cardinals and frogs.  Her collections were very eclectic.  Surviving are 3 children:  Gerald Smith of South Carolina, Megan wife of Jim Cummings of Quarryville, Ashley wife of David Savage of Parkesburg, 6 grandchildren:  Tyler, A.J., Kady, Hunter, Jonnelle, and Josie, 2 step grandchildren:  Justin and Mackenzie, 2 great grandsons:  Ethan and Theo Robert, 4 sisters: Ella Donahue of Akron, Katurah McGinnis of Florida, Nora Gifford of Akron, Rebecca Weaver of Coatesville.  Along with her husband their ashes will be spread together at Virginia Beach.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, PA 17509 to assist the family with funeral expenses.
