John L. Friant

John L. (Jack) Friant, son of the late E. Stewart Jr. and Mary Goodwin Friant passed away Sunday, April 3rd at his residence at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.He was born October 7, 1928 in Baltimore, MD.He was a graduate of the Boys Latin School, Baltimore, MD and served in the Philippines during the Korean War for the U.S. Army.He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Lancaster.He was a Mason of Brandywine Goddard Lodge, Coatesville, PA.
After discharge from the army, Jack found employment in the trucking industry.Turning this chance into a lifelong career, he started four trucking companies:Pioneer Transport, Inc. (1976), Falcon Transport, Inc. (1978), Quaker Transportation, Inc. (1986), and Quaker Transport, Inc. (1995).All four companies are still in operation today.He is past president of the Lancaster Traffic Club.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Douts Friant.He is also survived by a sister Anne Scheck of Towson, MD; four children, Mary wife of Harold Blackburn Jr. of Mount Gretna, PA, Elizabeth wife of Donald Martzall of Reinholds, PA, Margaret wife of Ronald Cramer of Manheim, PA, and the Reverend Doug Friant of Bedford, PA.John is survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Elias Stewart Friant III; a daughter, Carol Friant Harkins; and a son, Kenneth C. Friant.
Jack was an avid golfer and he enjoyed reading and spending time with his family, especially trips to the beach.
A Memorial Service celebrating Jack's life will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 East Roseville Road, Lancaster, PA on Thursday at 3:00PM.A visitation will be held at the church from 2:00PM until the time of service. Traditional interment will be private in Mt. Nebo United Methodist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, 3908 Corey Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17109 or the North Museum, 400 College Ave, Lancaster PA, 17603.
