John W. Douts, age 67, of Fairfax, VA, formerly of Chestnut Level, PA died on Friday, June 1, 2014 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.He will be missed by family and his many friends.
John was born in Lancaster, PA, son of the late William and Ida Douts.He graduated from Solanco High School in 1965 and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware.He also obtained a master's degree through the Longwood Gardens program and the University of Delaware in landscaping and horticulture.John was in the US Army, serving a tour of duty in Vietnam.
John established a landscaping business in Fairfax, VA.His love of flowers and gardening was shared by his recently deceased aunt, Eleanor Book.He enjoyed searching for antiques and collectibles and was an excellent cook and baker.His many acts of kindness included giving away plants and baked goods to friends and family.
John is survived by his sister, Mary Douts DelGiorno and husband, Walt of Wilmington, DE, his brother Roy B. Douts and wife Kay, and their sons B.J. and Jeff.
Special thanks are extended to the nurses and doctors at the Hospital of the University of PA for their care and support both surrounding John's liver transplant in 2010 and during his recent illness.
