Obituary

Jody L. Melson, of Gordonville, went home to be with her Savior on Monday, August 26, 2024 after a 6 ½ year battle with cancer.  She was the wife of Alex Melson, which whom she celebrated 28 beautiful years of marriage. Born in Huntingdon, she was the daughter of James L. and the late Sharon M. Bookhamer.  Jody was a member of Bellevue Presbyterian Church where she was a deacon and a servant to anyone in need.  She was an elementary school teacher for Pequea Valley School District for more than 25 years and was a 1996 graduate of Millersville University, where she also received her Master's Degree in 2006.

First and foremost, Jody was a believer in Jesus Christ, her personal Lord and Savior, which could be seen in her passion for short term mission work.  She was devoted to her family, to which she gave unwavering love and support. She loved spending time with them, especially traveling, camping, or playing a competitive game of cards.  She loved a good book, and as an educator, she brought out her students' strengths and confidence. Those closest to her describe her as "strong, caring, and tough." Even through her battle with cancer, she lived selflessly and with a joyful spirit. Jody leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion and the profound impact she made on countless lives.

Surviving, besides her husband and father, are three daughters, Alexis, Jordan, and Grace Melson; three siblings: Julie (Mike) Keller of Wyomissing, Jenny (J. Bryant) Snyder of Springfield and Jared (Jennifer) Bookhamer of Havertown.
