Obituary

Jean Magee Rentz peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Garden Spot Village. Born on August 21, 1929 in Lemoyne, PA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas R. And Jessie Barton Magee.  She was the loving wife of the late Robert I. Rentz for 60 years before his passing on June 19, 2011.  She graduated from Lemoyne High School in 1947 and received her BS from Albright College in 1951.  She completed graduate studies at the Pennsylvania and Millersville State Universities.  Jean taught social studies at the former Christiana High School for several years and later taught first grade in the Octorara School district for twenty-three years, retiring in 1992.  For many years Mrs. Rentz was a Secretary for the Moores Memorial Library and helped organize the children's summer reading programs.  She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church of Lancaster and more recently St. Stephen Reformed Church in New Holland.  A charter member of the Christiana Historical Society, she served on the Celebrate Christiana committee to commemorate 150 years of the Christiana Resistance.  After retiring from public education, she was active in the Chester County Concert Band for over 10 years and was involved with the Garden Spot Village Band.  She was also a volunteer with the New Holland Band.  Jean and her husband Bob traveled extensively around the world.  She was an avid reader and loved spending time with her friends and family.  She was a very active member of Garden Spot Village and loved being a part of the many activities, especially water volleyball.  The family expresses their sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Garden Spot Village for their kindness and loving care.  She is survived by 4 children; Jackie, wife of David Henry of Boone, NC, Judy Uniatowski of Burlington, NC, John, husband of Sharon Koskela Rentz of Lititz, Joann Rowe of Millersville, 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will take place at The Chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave, New Holland, on Saturday, April 25th at 11 a.m. with a time to greet the family from 10 a.m. until the time of service.  A private interment will take place at Sadsbury Friends Burial Ground.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jean's honor to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, 433 S. Kinzer Ave, New Holland, PA 17557.
