Janice M. Fortna, age 85, passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement community. She was the wife of the late Rev. Ira C. Fortna who died May 8, 2013. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer and Mae Arena Ditterline. Janice was a member of Wesley Church. She was a pastor's wife who faithfully cared for her family and the congregations her husband pastored. She volunteered with Cornerstone Pregnancy Care Services, New Hope Community Closet, and the former Food Bank, now Solanco Neighborhood Ministries. She loved reading, time with her family, and church services.
She is survived by her 5 children: Tammy Ober of Mount Joy, Joe husband of Nancy Walton Fortna of Quarryville, Janelle wife of Chuck Zimmerman of Columbia, Terri Hinshillwood of Collegeville, Brandon Fortna of SC, 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 3 sisters: Doris wife of Richard Macon of AR, Carol wife of Leroy Armstrong of Quarryville, and Sharon Moyer of Lancaster. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Ditterline.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 2nd at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, Ellingsworth Room, at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Rich Stevenson will be officiating. Interment will be on Thursday, September 3rd in the Covenant Greenwood Cemetery, 410 Ebenezer Road, Lebanon at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cornerstone Pregnancy Care Services, 5380 Lincoln Highway, Gap, PA 17527.
