Janet G. Martin

Janet G. Martin, age 92, formerly of Leola, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, November 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Landis Homes where she resided the last five years. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Martin who passed away on May 1, 2007. They were married for 53 years. She was born October 27 in Paradise, PA, daughter of the late Mark & Anna (Hershey) Hershey. Janet was a long-time member of Groffdale Mennonite Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, served on both the hospitality and visitation committee and was a board member for Open Door Youth Center.

Janet was a devoted homemaker who found great joy in caring for her family and creating a home filled with love and hospitality alongside her husband, Bob. She was an active partner in both the family farm and auctioneering business.

A wonderful cook, she will be fondly remembered for her chicken corn soup, cracker pudding and famous roast beef dinners. Her grandchildren adored her and she them, no one could make pancakes quite like grandma. Her kitchen was more than a place to enjoy a good meal; it was a place for meaningful conversations, laughter and making memories.

Janet enjoyed traveling with Bob, family trips to the beach, attending her grandchildren’s activities and events, and spending time reading. A faithful prayer warrior, she lived out her love for Christ through her care and compassion for others.

Her life was a beautiful reflection of her faith in God, love for her family, and her heart for helping others.

She is survived by 3 children: Michael L. husband of Marilyn Groff Martin of Strasburg, Kathy L. wife of John M. Frey of Lancaster and Janae M. Smiley of Lancaster, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 3 siblings: Doris Hershey Lichty of New Holland, Velda wife of Warren Peachey of Sun City, FL, Robert husband of Margy Lehigh Hershey of Paradise. She was preceded in death by a son Jeffrey R. Martin husband of Anne Yoder Martin of New Holland, 4 siblings: Jean Hershey, Kenneth husband of Betty Jane Hershey of New Holland, Ethel Bender and Lynford husband of Jeanie Kauffman Hershey of Idaho.

Funeral service will take place at Groffdale Mennonite Church, 168 North Groffdale Road, Leola, PA, on Monday, November 9th at 11 a.m., with a viewing time from 9 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Tom Eshleman will be officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Oregon House for their loving care of mother during her stay in healthcare.
