Janet M Horst

Janet M. Horst went home to be with her Lord on August 1, 2019 at the age of 77 after a long illness.Janet was the loving wife of 53 years of the late William H. Horst, Sr.She was the mother of Laura Jeanne, and the daughter of Rudolf B. Styer and Josephine Sheaffer Styer.She was the sister of Rudolf Styer, and Shirley Y. Gegg, all of whom preceded her in death.
Janet is survived by her son, William, of Mount Nebo, and her daughter Melissa, wife of Brent Randall of Sangerville, Maine.She is survived by her grandson Cody, three step grandchildren, Brent Jr., Sonia and Sunglee, and one step great grandchild, Kate. She is also survived by her brother Terry D. Styer and his wife Diane of Lancaster.She has many beloved nieces and nephews.
Janet grew up in Lancaster roller skating up and down the steep streets of Cabbage Hill.She was proud to be a member of the first graduating class from Conestoga Valley High School in 1959 where she took the business course.She always said that her greatest joy in life was to be a wife and mother.Janet drove school bus for 32 years for Solanco School District where she is fondly remembered by her fellow drivers and the many children she drove.Janet spent weeks every fall making dozens of felt ornaments to give to her young riders at Christmas. She taught Sunday school and Pioneer Club, and lead her daughter's Girl Scout troop.She was Room Mother for both of her children during their elementary school years.Janet cared for her mother-in-law, Leah B. Horst, in her last years.She loved her family and friends and was devoted to her beloved cats.Janet was well loved and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank Janet's faithful friends and relatives for all their cards and visits during her last illness.The family would especially like to thank the nurses, physical therapists and staff at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community for their kind and loving care during her final days.
Funeral services will be held at the Bible Evangelical Methodist Church, 2 Kay Drive, Lancaster, PA on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 10:30AM with Rev. Randy M. Hilton officiating. A viewing will be held at the church from 9:30AM until the time of service.Interment will follow in Mt. Nebo United Methodist Cemetery.
