James Gordon "Jim" Yinger

James Gordon “Jim” Yinger, 92, of Willow Street, formerly of Quarryville, entered into the loving arms of our Lord on September 25th, 2026. Born in Wide Hollow, Jim was the youngest of 11 children, he was the son of the late Sallie Weaver Yinger and David Yinger. He is survived by his sister, Lois Stirk. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Ann Yinger, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage, and a devoted father to Robert Yinger and his wife Deborah, Steve Yinger and his wife Tina, Tina Dansereau and her husband Paul, and Heather Yinger-Hartman. He was the proud Pop-Pop to eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Jim served in the army Reserve for two years and built a career in sales with Denlinger, Inc., where he worked until his retirement. A longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, he served as a deacon and lived his faith through his devotion to family, community, service to others, and a strong work ethic. In retirement, Jim continued serving others by volunteering at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, where he enjoyed transporting the ladies to their salon appointments, as well as helping at Main Street Closet.

A talented craftsman, Jim loved woodworking and took great pride in creating and building. Jim and Shirley owned and operated the Carriage Motel, and after selling it, they renovated their home on Miller Street. Jim late built their final home outside Quarryville, one of two homes he built over the years. He also enjoyed camping, gardening, baking, and traveling with Shirley.

The family’s official “taste tester,” Jim had a legendary sweet tooth that he passed along to his family. At family gatherings, the dessert spread was often grander than the meal itself. Jim also had a friendly but competitive spirit that came through whenever there was a game to be played. That same spirit was passed along to his children and grandchildren, on full display during the family’s annual homemade ice cream “freeze –off.”

In his late years, Jim shared a special companionship with the late Ruth Ann Wood, bringing much joy and many wonderful memories into his life. Through Ruth Ann, Jim also formed a special bond with her sister, Ione Gardner, who became like family.

Jim’s legacy will live on through the family he loved, the lives he touched, and the generations who will carry forward his faith, traditions, work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family.

A celebration of life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, 101 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, PA on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 5:00PM with Rev. Robert K. Bronkema officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00PM until the time of service and again following the service. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers.
