James Kolva

James Monroe Kolva, age 88 of Halifax, joined his Savior in eternal glory on Tuesday, September 22, 2020.  He was born on June 25, 1932 at home, the 10 th of 11 children born to James Wesley and Annie Fetrow Kolva.  Jim grew up in Armstrong Valley in northern Dauphin County and married his childhood sweetheart, Peggy Mohr Kolva with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage on September 19th.  Jim honorably served in the Army during the Korean War mostly in Germany.  He worked as a freight handler, shift supervisor, and night terminal manager for Railway Express Company and then Roadway Express.  He retired in 1989 traveling with Peggy for many years. Together they enjoyed birding, nature, Penn State football, puzzles, and life in the woods near Lewisberry.  Jim was known for his kind heart and incredible sense of humor.  He is survived by his wife, Peggy, his son, James Russell husband of Jan Butz Kolva of Bedford, VA, his daughter, Bonnie Jean wife of Michael Gaborek of Havre de Grace, MD, 3 grandchildren: Rebecca and Nicholas Gaborek, and Alex Carl husband of Sabrina Kolva, a great grandson, Jaden Kolva, and 2 brothers: Karl husband of Mary Kolva of NY and William Kolva of Halifax.  He was preceded in death by 8 siblings: Elma Fleisher, Verna Miller, Eva Gerhard, Vesta Romberger, Paul Kolva, Emma Wolfe, Galen Kolva, and Ione Scruggs.  Services will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jim's honor to the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Inc. or the York Audubon Society.
