Jacob R.
Lapp
June 28, 1932 – April 19, 2026
Jacob R. Lapp, age 93 of Kinzers, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in the home that he built. He was the husband of Loretta M. King Lapp, with whom he celebrated 72 years of marriage on January 16th. Jake was born in Paradise, son of the late Samuel & Susan Glick Lapp. He and his wife were founding members of the Ridgeview Mennonite Church of Gordonville, where in the past he had served as a Trustee. He joined his father and brother in 1962 at Lapp's Sawmill. They later incorporated the business under the name of Lapp Lumber Company. After their father retired, Jake and Mel continued to own and operate the business before passing it along to the third generation. Jake loved creating things through woodworking, carpentry, and landscaping. Spending time with his family at their cabin and watching the Philadelphia Phillies were two of his favorite pastimes. Through their involvement in Ridgeview Mennonite Church, he and Loretta hosted a Kenyan student and built a relationship with his Maasai community. This later created the opportunity to travel and work with communities in Kenya multiple times. Surviving besides his wife are 4 children: Jim husband of Joy Meyers Lapp of Lancaster, Donna wife of Vernon Stoltzfus of Honey Brook, Doug husband of Barb Huber Lapp of Quarryville, Lorie wife of Brent Hershey of Philadelphia, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 3 sisters: Edna wife of Ray Lapp of Ephrata, Barbara Kauffman of New Holland, Rhoda wife of Marvin Smoker of Intercourse. He was preceded in death by 4 siblings: Anna Mary Benner, Dale, Melvin & David Lapp.
A memorial service will take place at Ridgeview Mennonite Church, 3723 Ridge Road, Gordonville, PA, on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 5:00 PM.
