On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, J. Rohrer Witmer passed away at age 89.
Rohrer was born to the late Clair & Minnie (Rohrer) Witmer on November 23, 1929 in Refton, PA, the youngest of six children. A lifelong Lancaster native, he was a 1948 graduate of West Lampeter High School and was involved in athletics, 4-H Dairy Judging, and FFA. He married Mary Ella Stauffer in 1953 and together they operated Witla Farm, a Brown Swiss dairy farm, for many years before opening Witmer Insurance.
The dairy industry was a passion of Rohrer's, and he was involved for several years as a member of the Red Rose Dairymen's Association. Active in both church and community, Rohrer served as president of the Lampeter-Strasburg School Board and was a dedicated Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed traveling the US and Canada on motorcycle with his wife and friends and was known for his good humor and distinct, infectious laugh. He was deeply devoted to his Lord, wife, children and grandchildren.
Rohrer is survived by his wife, Mary Ella; three children: Linda Bensing (wife of Ronald) of Ephrata; Robert of Willow Street; Judy Miller (wife of Douglas) of Annville; and five grandchildren: Erin, Amber, Lindsey, Jonathan and Lacey Bensing. He was preceded in death by brothers Mervin, Paul, Raymond, and sisters, Mary Myer and Miriam Bollinger.
A memorial service celebrating Rohrer's life will be held at Calvary Monument Bible Church, 1660 Mine Road, Paradise, PA on Thursday, July 11 at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Arrangements entrusted to Murray A.
