Harold S. Probst

Harold S. Probst, age 89 of Bart, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 4, 2026. He was the loving husband of Joan Paes Probst for 67 years. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Carl S. and Mabelle E. Trout Probst. He was a member of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church. Raised on the family farm in Kirkwood, Harold honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps until being discharged as a military police sergeant. He tested milk as a DHIA Supervisor for 47 years, proudly servicing more than 200 dairy farms each month before retiring. Harold loved God, his country and his family as his priorities. He was a lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and was in his front row seats at spring training in Florida for more than 15 years. An avid autograph hound, he collected hundreds of signed balls and jerseys. He was also passionate about flowers which was apparent by the abundance of impatiens and other annuals throughout his yard. He enjoyed travelling to historical sites throughout the country and was especially intrigued by the civil war era. A weekend with family at his cabin in Perry County was his ultimate retreat. Surviving along with his wife Joan are 3 children; Harold S. Jr., husband of the late Jean Antes Probst of Quarryville, Debora, wife of Roger Duttry of Lancaster and Dawn Dreyer of Middletown, 2 grandchildren, Katie Probst and Devon Dreyer, a step-grandson Jeremy Duttry, 2 great-grandchildren, Xander and Dahlia Dreyer and 5 siblings; Robert Probst of Delaware, Edith Hollins of Quarryville, Emma Romero of Leola, Ruth, wife of Tom Gentry of Quarryville, and Ethel, wife of Hobert McMillion of Quarryville. He was a cherished Pop-Pop to Kenny Dyson, Ben Dyson and Chelsea Reider. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerre P. Probst, a grandson, Philip E. Probst and 2 sisters, Esther Sheaffer and Marian Griffith. The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice and Community Care for providing comfort and support and to the many neighbors and members of the Amish community who visited and were always there in times of need.

A funeral service will take place at Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1199 Valley Road, Quarryville, on Thursday, June 11th at 5 p.m. with a viewing time from 3 p.m. until the time of service.
