Harold Amos Groff, family man and child of God, entered into rest at the age of 83 on November 2, 2026. Born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on October 28, 1943, he was the beloved husband of the late Anna Mary (Ann) Groff who preceded him home to Heaven just two weeks prior. Harold and Ann built a life together over 54 years of marriage, raising a family and sharing a commitment to their faith. Their family is grateful for the years they had together and for the legacy they leave behind. Harold’s faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was the central focus of his life. He and Ann were longtime members of Hinkletown Mennonite Church and later Calvary Church. Music and singing were a constant passion, which he lived out by participating in church choirs and the Gap Men’s Choir. Harold led his family with a love for Christ and what He did for us, and loved his wife as unto the Lord always thanking God for her when he prayed. One of their greatest joys as parents was seeing all three of their children come to know and trust the Lord as their own guidepost in their earthly lives, just as his fatherly example taught them so. Most of his working life was spent on the road as an owner-operator truck driver. Harold took in many sights on the paths he traveled, but he also touched others with his tenderhearted personality. A consummate professional on the highway, Harold was recognized on a national stage when he was named the first runner-up for the prestigious 1992 North American Owner-Operator of the Year award. This honor placed him among the absolute elite in his industry, celebrating his exemplary safety record, sharp business mind, and dedication to his community. Throughout his life, Harold found great joy in giving of himself and serving others. During his working years, he volunteered as a Sunday School teacher and was a guest speaker in local high school driver's education classes, sharing his knowledge and experiences with young people. After retiring from trucking, Harold found a new place to give of himself at Landis Homes, where he spent many years volunteering. This proved to be a role he truly loved, as serving others remained such a meaningful part of his life. He also volunteered with MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) when his grandchildren were young, and the little ones there greatly enjoyed his fun personality. To his grandchildren, he was Pop Pop and he loved making that role special. He would sing to them, come up with silly things to say, and do whatever he could to get a laugh. He delighted in watching each of them grow, and with every passing year came even more love and pride. The songs, laughter, and memories they shared with him and the special joy he had as Pop Pop will be treasured for years to come. He is survived by two children: Melissa, wife of Eric Corneliusen of Williston, North Dakota, and Jeremy, husband of Erin Weidman Groff of Landisville; ten grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law, Dori Zook Groff of West Virginia, widow of his late son Michael who preceded him home to Heaven in 2023. Calvary Church will host a memorial service for both Harold and Ann on November 9 at 11:00 a.m. at 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 17601. Family and friends are invited to greet the family from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment at Mellinger’s Mennonite Cemetery will be private for close family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harold Groff’s memory may be made to Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 or to Servant Stage Company of Lancaster at servantstage.org/donate
