Gertrude E. Refford

Gertrude E. Refford, age 86 of Lancaster, PA, passed away at the Lancaster General Hospital on Thursday, August 28, 2025.  She was the wife of Arthur L. Refford with whom she celebrated 63 years of marriage on October 1st of last year.  She was born in Maytown, daughter of the late Amos & Katherine Spayd Spade.  She was a member of the Community Bible Church of Gordonville where she was in the choir and was a Sunday School Teacher.  In the past she worked as a cashier at Zimmermans Hardware.  She enjoyed reading, doing word search and loving on her children and grandchildren.  Surviving besides her husband are 3 children: Suzanne wife of Larry Hertzog of Lancaster, Beth Ann wife of Mark Rudy of Quarryville, Anita wife of Ernest "Butch" Prokay, Jr. of Millersville, 7 grandchildren: Shane Jr. (Jessica), Brianne, Devin, Marissa (Adam), Derek (Tiffany), Adam, Dillon, 7 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings:  Barbara Stoltzfus of Christiana, Joseph husband of Marilou Spade of California, Frances wife of the late Alvin Nolt of Quarryville.  Preceded in death by a grandson, Luke, former son-in-law Shane Sr., and 8 siblings:  Eileen Keller, Guy Eugene Spade, Odella Dippner, Kathryn Louise Neff, Gladys Miller, Nancy Ebersol, George Spade, Sr., and Harry Spade.  Gertrude always put her family above herself and showed the love of Jesus to everyone she came in contact with. She loved her family well and showed them how to love well.

Funeral service will take place from the Community Bible Church, 234 Old Leacock Road, Gordonville, PA, on Friday, September 5th at 12 Noon with a viewing time from 10 a.m. until time of service.  Interment will be in the Paradise Mennonite Cemetery.
