Georgia Ann Jeffery

Georgia Ann Jeffery, 88, went to be with her Lord on July 24, 2026, at Ware Presbyterian Village in Oxford, PA, just four days shy of her 89th birthday. She was born on July 28, 1937, in Cadillac, Michigan, to the late Helen and Russell Parmelee. Raised on a dairy farm near Hopkins, Michigan, Ann developed an early love for animals, often nursing runts back to health, a sign of the life of compassionate care she would go on to lead.

Ann graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois with a degree in nursing and became a Registered Nurse. She worked as a camp and in-home care nurse until the birth of her first child, at which point she devoted herself fully to her growing family. While at Wheaton, she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Jeffery, an art student with a radical faith. The artist and the nurse married in 1963 in Chicago, Ill and, in 1970, answered a courageous calling to the mission field, joining the Latin America Mission (now United World Mission). In 1975, they moved with their three young children to Costa Rica, where they would live and serve for nearly 40 years.

In Costa Rica, Ann, known to all as "Anita", poured out her nursing skills and compassion among the poor, the sick, and the outcast, often in slums where resources were scarce but love was abundant. She was one of the strongest and most selfless people anyone could meet, completely dedicated to the service of others. She and Bob worked hand in hand, and she became a beloved figure in every community they touched.

Ann loved gardening, her many pets, and spending as much time as possible outdoors. She was deeply connected to her family and always, always wanted to do things "together." She also loved to laugh at herself: after three years of Spanish study at Wheaton, her professor told her, "I hope you are never stationed in a Spanish-speaking country." She spent the next four decades in Costa Rica communicating fluently with everyone she met, in Spanish that was delivered with beautiful pronunciation, sincere enthusiasm, and consistently awful grammar.

After retiring from the mission field around 2014, Ann and Bob settled in Conway, Arkansas, near their son Matt. Bob preceded her in death eight years ago. In her final years, Ann was lovingly cared for by her daughter Heather and son Chad in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, before moving to the memory care unit at Ware Presbyterian Village.

Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, missionary, and friend. She enriched countless lives and will be greatly missed.

Ann is survived by her three children: Matthew (Caryn) Jeffery, Heather (Kendall) King, and Chad (Ann-Louise) Jeffery; her ten grandchildren: Elaine, Jacob, and Lucille Jeffery; Rio, Mattias, and Marco King; and Luke, Savannah, Mia, and Natalie Jeffery; and her brother John Parmelee of Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Robert Jeffery; her parents, Helen and Russell Parmelee; and her brother Jim Parmelee, who was killed in service during the Vietnam War.

Nació el 28 de julio de 1937 en Cadillac, Michigan, hija de los difuntos Helen y Russell Parmelee. En Costa Rica, Ann, a quien todos conocían como "Anita", puso sus conocimientos de enfermería y su compasión al servicio de los pobres, los enfermos y los marginados, a menudo en barrios donde los recursos eran escasos pero el amor abundaba. Fue una de las personas más fuertes y generosas que alguien pudiera conocer, completamente entregada al servicio de los demás. Junto a Roberto, trabajaron codo a codo, y Anita llegó a ser una figura querida en cada comunidad en la que dejaron huella.

Anita amaba la jardinería, sus muchas mascotas y pasar todo el tiempo posible al aire libre. Estaba profundamente conectada con su familia y siempre, siempre quiso hacer las cosas "juntos". También le encantaba reírse de sí misma: después de tres años estudiando español en Wheaton, su profesor le dijo: "Espero que nunca la envíen a un país de habla español". Pasó las siguientes cuatro décadas en Costa Rica comunicándose fluidamente con todos, en un español que se distinguía por su bella pronunciación, su entusiasmo sincero y una gramática siempre terrible.

Después de jubilarse del campo misionero alrededor de 2014, Anita y Roberto se establecieron en Conway, Arkansas, cerca de su hijo Matt. Bob falleció hace ocho años. En sus últimos años, Anita recibió el amoroso cuidado de su hija Heather y su hijo Chad en Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, antes de ser trasladada a la unidad de cuidado de memoria de Ware Presbyterian Village.

Anita fue una esposa, madre, abuela, enfermera, misionera y amiga ejemplar. Enriqueció incontables vidas y será profundamente extrañada.

A Anita le sobreviven sus tres hijos: Matthew (Caryn) Jeffery, Heather (Kendall) King y Chad (Ann-Louise) Jeffery; sus diez nietos: Elaine, Jacob y Lucille Jeffery; Rio, Mattias y Marco King; y Luke, Savannah, Mia y Natalie Jeffery; y su hermano John Parmelee de Michigan.

Le precedieron en la muerte su amado esposo de 55 años, Roberto Jeffery; sus padres, Helen y Russell Parmelee; y su hermano Jim Parmelee, quien murió en servicio durante la guerra de Vietnam.
