George E. Welk, Jr., age 93, formerly of Paradise, passed away at Fairmount Homes on Sunday, December 31, 2023.  He was the husband of Suie E. Ross Welk, with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage on February 19th.  He was born in Christiana, PA, son of the late George E. & Annie Brown Welk.  He attended Highview Church of God of Ronks.  He graduated from Solanco High class of 1948.  George worked as a carpenter for Wohlsen Construction for 32 years.  In the past he served on the Solanco School District School Board for 16 years, serving as treasurer for several years.   He was a Past President of the Bart Township Fire Company, of which he was a 60+ year member, and also a supporter of the Company's Special Division.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.  Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons:  Thomas E. husband of Cindy Hall Welk of Strasburg, Brian G. husband of Ginny Crum Welk of Strasburg, 3 grandchildren: Joshua T. husband of Jennifer McDuffie Welk of New Providence, Marsha wife of Scott Kauffman of Lancaster, Robb husband of Leah Stillman Beiler of Willow Street and 6 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by 4 siblings:  Mary Jane Irwin, Janet P. Lewis, Lester J. Welk and Annie K. Erb.
