Geneva K.
Martin
March 13, 1932 – July 16, 2024
Geneva K. Martin, 92, of Landis Homes, transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on Tuesday, July 16, with her children by her side.
Born in Holmes County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Mast and Beulah Kauffman, and the beloved wife for 64 years of the late Melvin J. Martin, who passed away in June, 2017.
Melvin and Geneva had met as freshmen at Goshen College, Goshen, IN. They lived their entire married life in a beautiful historic home in Gap called Bellevue, where they operated a dairy farm. Geneva served as a true partner in farm responsibilities; maintained a huge garden and multiple flower beds; and was an extraordinary steward of the house and its furnishings. She was also graced in the skill of sewing, quilting, and crafts.
Geneva loved the Lord dearly and always spent her early morning hours with a cup of coffee, the Bible, and her prayer journal. She was a disciplined and enthusiastic reader of many books pertaining to Christian thought, practice, and growth.
Melvin and Geneva were among the first members of Monterey Mennonite Church, now Forest Hills Mennonite Church in Leola. Geneva taught an adult women's class for a number of years; helped with VBS when her children were younger; and participated regularly in the sewing circle.
Geneva also had the distinction of serving as part the Pennsylvania Grand Jury for several years in the late 1990s.
Geneva's greatest passion was her family. She will always be remembered for her kind and conscientious care to each of her children and grandchildren; her amazing meals, especially her homemade bread and pies; and her joyful involvement in each of our lives.
Geneva is survived by four children: Janice, married to Richard Baldauf, Gordonville; Barbara, married to Robert Heisey, Lancaster; Ruth, married to Steve Heatwole, Gap; and Sheldon, married to Naomi Miller Martin, Lancaster. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by 3 siblings: Grace Lehman, Lois Thatcher, and Elmo Kauffman, along with a daughter-in-law, Celeste Martin.
Geneva's Celebration of Life will take place at Landis Homes, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, on Friday, July 19, at 10 a.m., with a viewing time from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Ridgeview Mennonite Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to the Landis Homes Caring Fund.
