Gene A. McFarland, age 79 of New Holland, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Newport Meadows Nursing Home.  He was the husband of the late Sharon Siendt McFarland for over 57 years before her passing on February 2, 2021.  Born in Fresno, CA, he was the son of the late Albert and Florence Selsor McFarland.  He was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church in Lancaster where he was a part of the Forever Young group.  He graduated from Roosevelt High School where he played the slide trombone in the marching band.  Gene was a self-employed electrician.  In his free time, he loved, fishing, spending time with his family, and doing all sorts of things for other people.  He is survived by 2 children; Diana, wife of Mark Teijaro, with whom he resided, Vernon Allen, husband of Angie Thomas McFarland of Conestoga, 6 grandchildren; Larissa Marie, wife of Lawrence Hume, III, Meghan Nicole, fiancé of Benjamin Hale, Grace and Evan McFarland, Bob, husband of Jazmyn Thomas, Clayton, fiancé of Kiersten Ingram, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings; Calvin, husband of Kelli Wilson McFarland of Louisville, KY, Geral McFarland of North Bend, OR, Esta Word of Ripon, CA, a niece whom he loved like a daughter, Lynette Williford, and many other nieces and nephews whom he loved like his own children.  He was preceded in death by 2 siblings, Jimmie and Carol McFarland.

A memorial service will take place at Shivery Funeral Home, 111 Elizabeth Street, Christiana, on Sunday, October 15th at 4 p.m. with a time to greet the family from 3 p.m. until the time of service.  Pastor Moses Baker will be officiating.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gene's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org.
