Esther H. Sheaffer, 87, of Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community and formerly of Christiana, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Lancaster General Hospital. She was the widow of Ralph L. Sheaffer.Born in Bart Township, she was the daughter of the late Carl S. and Mabelle E. Trout Probst.
Esther was a member of Union Presbyterian Church. She retired after 30 plus years of service from Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community where she was employed in the laundry and housekeeping department.
She enjoyed her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, flower gardening, dining out, and had an extensive mug collection.
She is survived by 2 sons, R. Larry Sheaffer and his wife Colleen of Kirkwood, Joseph H. Sheaffer and his wife Donna of New Providence; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 6 siblings, Robert (Kitty) Probst of Dover, DE, Harold (Joan) Probst of Bart, Edith Hollins of Quarryville, Emma Romero of Leola, Ruth (Tom) Gentry of Quarryville, and Ethel (Hobert) McMillion of Quarryville. She was preceded in death by a sister Marian Griffith.
Esther was a long-time companion of Ike Redcay who preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at Union Presbyterian Church, 5637 Street Road, Kirkwood, PA on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 11:00AM with Pastor R. Blake Deibler officiating.Interment will follow in Union Cemetery.A viewing will be held at the church from10:00AM until the time of service.
