Donald W. Smith

Donald W. Smith, age 78, of Lancaster, passed away on June 2, 2026. He was born in Ashland, PA, the son of the late Carl and Mary Zealburg Smith.

Donald proudly served in the United States Army as a sharpshooter. During his service, he received multiple medals, including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (1960), and the Combat Infantryman Badge (1st Award).

After serving, he was active in Vietnam Veterans Against the War. He enjoyed American history, especially the Civil War, and visiting Gettysburg, where he spent time walking the surrounding battlefields. He played the drums and was a member of the Reilly Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps.

A loving and devoted family man, he is survived by his three children: Sean, husband of Vicki Smith of New Providence; Nathan, husband of Jennifer Smith of Paradise; and Megan Smith of Arlee, Montana; two grandchildren, Evan and Brynn, children of Nathan and Jennifer Smith; and three siblings: Eileen, wife of Michael Mento of Brandamore, PA; Jake, husband of Robin Smith of Martinsville, VA; and AnnMary Mattson of Honey Brook. He is also survived by his longtime companion, Barbara Nabreski Schmock.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Smith.
