Donald L. Gulliver

Donald L. Gulliver, 98, of Woodcrest Villa, formerly of Strasburg, died Friday, May 15, 2020 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, PA. He and his wife Mary Carter Gulliver were married on November 8, 1950 and celebrated 69 years of marriage. Born in Howard, NY, his was the son of the late William and Ruth Johnson Gulliver.

Don initially worked in the dairy and milk industry in Summit, NJ, then took employment with RCA in Harrison, NJ until his enlistment in the US Army during WWII. He was deployed to the South Pacific Theater where he saw action through all of New Guinea and the islands of Leyte and Luzon in the Philippines. Following his service in the Army he returned to work for RCA which had relocated to Lancaster PA, retiring in 1982 after 41 years of service to the company.

Don held several interests over the years, including earning his private pilot's license from the FAA, earning his PA state real estate license, and owning and operating a radio and television repair shop in Strasburg on a part time basis.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg, the Strasburg Lions Club of which he served in several offices including secretary and president, and in which he received the highest award in Lionism, the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2000. A Free and Accepted Mason, he was a member of Lancaster Lodge F&AM #43, a member and past Worshipful Master of Lodge #764 prior to its merging with Lodge #43, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple Shrine, and the Lancaster County Shire Club.

Don served for four years as a councilman for the Borough of Strasburg. He belonged to the American Legion Post #184 Mount Joy, PA.

Surviving beside his wife Mary is a son, David Gulliver of Lancaster, 1 granddaughter, 2 great grandsons, 1 great granddaughter, and 1 great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Earl and Glenn and a sister Lura and a granddaughter Diane Young.
