Donald U. Burkhart, 88 of Whitefield Lane, Lancaster, PA passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at his residence.

Born in Strasburg Township, he was the son of the late Clayton B. and Miriam Ulrich Burkhart.

Don was employed in the excavating business from the time he was 17 years of age, starting and operating his own business.  During that time he received both National and State awards for his excavating skills.  He retired from Wiker Excavating in 2009 after 25 years as an equipment operator.

He was a member of PA Land Improvement Contractors Association where he also won awards for his abilities as an excavator.

Don was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg. An avid outdoorsman and hunter, he belonged to the Red Rock Hunting Club in Tioga County, and the Southern Lancaster County Sportsman's Association. He enjoyed going to his cabin in Huntingdon County and was a big NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his son Douglas E. (Glenda Engle) Burkhart of Lancaster; a granddaughter Zarina E. Burkhart; and his loving companion of 13 years Pamela Sue Pavetto.

Don was preceded in death by his wife Nancy J. Yuninger Burkhart who passed away on September 3, 2005; and his three siblings, Melvin, Elizabeth, and Anna Belle.

Private services will be held at Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery.
