Clayton J. Metzler

Clayton (Clate) J. Metzler, 91, formerly of Willow Street, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at York Hospital. He was born at home in Strasburg to the late Clayton H. and Irene G. Metzler.

Clayton was a 1952 graduate of Solanco High School. Following his years of farming, he was employed many years as a salesman of livestock equipment for Frey Brothers and after retirement Lancaster General Hospital as a valet/greeter. He was an active member of Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church for 72 years, Tucquan Lions Club, and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. He enjoyed working with stain glass, reading the Lancaster Farming, collecting items from tractors to stamps, going to hunting camp, and spending time with the "Gang" and his family.

He is survived by his wife, Florence A. (Lefever) Metzler. They would have celebrated 68th wedding anniversary on December 8th. Children: Joseph E. (Jane R.) Metzler, and Polly L. (Ronald E.)Hill, 4 grandchildren, Jason (Kelsey) Metzler, Jennelle (Jordon) Black, Jacqueline (Andrew) Gordon and Bradley Hill and 5 great grandchildren, Jayler and Jahla Black, Aubree and Brooks Metzler and Aubree Gordon. Siblings: Blanche M. (Leroy) Church, Esther M.(Wayne)Toller, Evelyn L Metzler, Josephine G. Metzler, Pauline G. Metzler, and J. Francis (Debbie, deceased) Metzler and many nephews and nieces. Clayton was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene M.(David) Livengood, Mary M. (Homer) Carpenter and Clare A. Metzler.

A funeral service will take place at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, 1068 Chestnut Level Church Road, Quarryville, PA, on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM with Rev John Hartman officiating. The family will receive family and friends at the church from 10 AM until the service. Interment will follow the service in the adjoining cemetery. Kindly omit flowers.
