Obituary

Charles Thomas Lewis of Quarryville passed on April 16th, 2025 while in the care of the wonderful staff of Community Care & Hospice and his loving family. Charles "Buddy" Lewis was born the only child to Roy and Nora Lewis (both decedent) of Quarryville PA on March 24th, 1940. A 1958 graduate of Solanco Senior High in Quarryville, Buddy met and married his high school sweetheart Ellen Louise Hess and together they raised three sons, celebrating 61 years of marriage before Ellen's passing in 2020. As a young man, Buddy worked as the produce manager for Acme Grocery in Lancaster. Then, the remainder of his work life was spent supervising crews in steel manufacturing from ship and barge construction in Port DePosit, MD, to steel manufacturing both at Heil, Inc and Goodhart Sons, Inc both in Lancaster, PA. A natural leader, Buddy was greatly admired by those he supervised on the job. Many of the friendships he made during those years endured for the rest of his life. An avid NASCAR follower, Buddy traveled with his young family to dozens of races throughout the East Coast. But his true passion lay in his love of collecting. Over the years he amassed a wealth of fine antiquities along with his pride and joy, a treasure trove of Native American artifacts. This Native American collection grew to hundreds of arrowheads, spears, pottery and other beautiful items which he enjoyed showing visitors. Buddy was a longtime member of the Lampeter Church of the Brethren where he spent many dedicated hours caring for the church memorial garden. He was greatly loved by his fellow parishioners.

Buddy is survived by his three sons, Jeffrey 64 of Lancaster as well as Gregory 62 and Christopher 58 both of Quarryville. Additionally, he leaves two beautiful generations of 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

A small private ceremony to celebrate Buddy's life is forthcoming. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Hospice and Community Care of Lancaster.
