Charles Eugene Hess
Charles Eugene "Gene" Hess Sr., 84, of Mt Joy, PA, passed away at Lancaster Regional Hospital on Tuesday, September 20, 2016.He went to be with his wife of 56 years, Shirley A. Neuhauser Hess who passed away in 2011.
Gene was born in New Providence, PA, a son of the late John F. Hess Sr, and Elsie Alexander Hess.
He had served proudly in Korea with the 187th ARCT Rakkasan, part of the original 82nd Airborne.Gene was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, CB radios, his motorcycle, and trips to the shore with his wife.
He was lovingly cared for by his eldest son, Charles E. "Chip" Hess, Jr until his passing.
He is survived by 6 children, Vicki Bonte, Middletown, Charles Hess, Jr., Mt Joy, Peggy Thompson (Derrick), Baltimore, Steven Hess (Toni), Mt Joy, Trudy Leedom (Randy), Lancaster, Anthony Hess, Mt Joy; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and a sister, Linda Lichtenwalner.He was predeceased by a sister, Marlene Coates and a brother John F. Hess, Jr.
At Charles request, all services will be private.If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors Project. Arrangements entrusted to Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Quarryville, PA. www.reynoldsfuneralhome.net.
