Bonnie Lee Butson

Bonnie Lee Butson, age 83, passed away Saturday August 8, 2026 at United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz, PA. She was born in Lancaster, PA. to the late Isaac R. and Alberta L. Butson.

Bonnie graduated from J.P.McCaskey H.S. She attained a BS in Elementary Education from Millersville State College, and a Masters from Ball State University. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Educators Sorority.

After graduation she taught at Stiegel Elementary in Manheim, PA. She then moved to Indianapolis and taught at three schools in Lawrence Township: Brook Park, Mary Castle, and Amy Beverland Elementary. Bonnie devoted her life to teaching the young and received recognition for her efforts by Local, State, and Federal entities. For example in 2003 Governor O’Bannon appointed her a “Sagamore of the Wabash.” This denoted someone a Native American chief would look to for wisdom and advice.

Upon her retirement she moved to Talmadge, Ohio where she earned her Master Gardener designation,

Bonnie is survived by her brother Tommie and his wife Teri Burns Butson and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Isaac Jr. and his wife Linda.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers please donate to a local animal shelter or to Doctors Without Borders.
