Barbara J. Thomas Merricks, age 86 of Kirkwood, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. She was the wife of the late Horace Lee Merricks. Born in Valdosta Georgia, she was the daughter of Walter and Louise Sanders Thomas. She was a loving Aunt to: Rachel, Lisa, Bernadette, and Mark. Barbara enjoyed old western movies, anything outdoors, birds, flowers, plants. She was an amazing cook. She made the best coffee cake. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, each years she tried to outdo the last.

Surviving are 7 grandchildren: Raymond Spencer of Strasburg, Stephanie Damario of Kirkwood, Tiffanie Miller of Kirkwood, Tara Tann of Smyrna, DE, Jessica Colon of Pittsburgh, Kyle Merricks of Lancaster, Athena Brewer of Rising Sun, MD, 10 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Moses Thomas, 5 sisters: Laura, wife of Curtis Williams of GA, Betty, Mary, Geraldine, Minnie Mae.

A funeral service will take place from Reynolds and Shivery Funeral Home, 144 E. State Street, Quarryville, PA 17566 on Saturday August 30th at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
