Arthur L. Refford

Arthur L. Refford, age 91, of Lancaster, PA, passed away at United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz on Sunday, August 23, 2026. He was the husband of the late Gertrude E. Spade Refford for 63 years until her passing on August 28, 2025. Born in Gap, he was the son of the late Daniel and Helen Englerth Refford Sr. He was a member of Community Bible Church in Gordonville, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir. Arthur served in the Army from 1958 to 1960. He was a machinist and worked for few machine shops in the area. He enjoyed reading, fishing, and hunting, but most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arthur was a humble, hard working Godly man who steered his family towards Jesus always.

He is survived by three children: Suzanne, wife of Larry Hertzog Jr. of Lancaster; Beth Ann, wife of Mark Rudy of Quarryville; and Anita, wife of Ernest “Butch” Prokay Jr. of Millersville; eight grandchildren: Shane Jr. (Jessica), Brianne, Devin, Marissa (Adam), Derek (Tiffany), Adam, Dillon (Amber) and Kristina (Justin); seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a grandson Luke, former son-in-law Shane Sr and brothers Robert and Daniel Refford.

A funeral service will take place from Community Bible Church, 234 Old Leacock Road, Gordonville, PA, on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 11 a.m., with a viewing from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Pastor Steve Canapp will be officiating. Interment will be in Paradise Mennonite Cemetery.
