Anita Frey Barthelson, age 90, of Chestertown, Md, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.  Anita was predeceased by her loving husband Norman A. Barthelson who died in 2017.

Anita was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1934, the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Anna Huber Frey, immigrants from Germany.  The family moved to Lancaster and she spent her early years growing up on a farm.  She was proud to say she was a "farm girl".

Anita graduated from Solanco High School in 1952 and moved to Wilmington, DE to attend Goldey Beacom Business School and started working for Atlas Powder Company as a secretary.  Her whole career was with the same company (which changed names many times) and she retired as an executive secretary from Astra Zeneca in 1990.

Anita and Norm lived in Kennett Square but shortly after retiring moved to Lewes, DE.  They enjoyed traveling.  Anita was a dressmaker all her life and started quilting after retirement, making many beautiful quilts for her family.  She also had a passion for gardening.

Anita is survived by her daughter Lisa Parry Ruth (husband David and children Jordan, Ryan, and Cameron).  She is also survived by stepchildren: Steven Barthelson, Roger Barthelson (wife Judy), Peter Barthelson (wife Ellie and children Adam, Mary, Katie, Sam), Melissa Miller (husband Gary and children Daniel [daughter Sirena], the late Sara [children Giovani, Yazzi, Zair and the late Reina Lee], Benjamin, Jillian), 2 brothers John and Willey Frey.

She was preceded in death by 5 siblings: Fred, Ernie, Pete, Maria and Magie.

Funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 1 at 11 a.m. at Mechanic Grove Church of the Brethren, 1392 Robert Fulton Highway, Quarryville.  There will be a viewing at the church from 10 a.m. until time of service.
