Weaver
March 17, 1944 – January 1, 2025
Alverna M. Weaver, age 80, of Willow Street, met her Savior on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital surrounded by her children. She was the wife of the late Clayton E. Weaver who passed away in 1995. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Elvin and Mary Silivius Ashby. Alverna was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Lancaster, PA. In the past, she would help in the nursery, teach Sunday school, and serve as deaconess. Most recently, she was faithful to join the service online. She had worked at Hess's Butcher Shop, starting around 1979 as a meat wrapper. Later, she diligently cleaned their catering supplies until 1995. She also cleaned for Miller Photography and various homes in the area. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. She enjoyed going out to eat, collecting snowmen, and was known as an encourager with her ministry of cards for all occasions. She enjoyed puzzles, playing solitaire, and talking on the phone to her friends and special niece, Sandy. She is survived by 4 children: Carol A. wife of Aaron Ebersole of Willow Street, Sue A. wife of Greg Hess of Lancaster, Clayton E. Weaver Jr., Mary Ann wife of Brad Friese, both of Willow Street, 5 granddaughters: Amanda wife of José Cortes, Gina wife of Collin Rineer, Sarah wife of Michael Deiter, Grace wife of Logan Sensenig, Maylynn Friese, 5 great-grandchildren: Shyla, Issac, José Cortes, Kelsea Deiter, Kolton Sensenig, and 1 on the way, 1 brother James Ashby, partner of Wilfredo Rosas of FL. She was preceded in death by a great-grandson Antonio "Peanut" Cortes, 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, January 7 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 530 Milton Road, Lancaster with Pastor Gary Wimberly officiating. There will be a viewing at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Private family interment will take place in the Pequea Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Alverna's memory to Calvary Baptist Church, 530 Milton Road, Lancaster, PA 17602. Service will be live streamed via Facebook and YouTube on the Calvary Baptist Church pages.
