Alma Mae
Shultz
August 30, 1939 – November 13, 2025
Alma Mae (Gochenaur) Shultz, 86, of Lancaster, PA, transitioned to her eternal home with unwavering faith in the resurrection power of Jesus Christ on November 13, 2025. Born on August 30, 1939, Alma was a beloved wife, mother, and active member of her community. Her joyful spirit, energy, and kindness were an inspiration to all, and her legacy of service, faith, and love for family remains. Alma is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Harold Shultz, whom she married in 1959, and their cherished children: daughters Karen Shultz Baynard (Tim), Kathy Shultz Hess (Don), Krista Shultz Lehman (Dan), son Ron Shultz (Regina), and honorary daughter, Marcela Mellinger (Duane). She will be dearly missed by her 16 grandchildren: Jordan Baynard (Emily), Taurean Baynard (Erin), Maurice Baynard (Teresa), Keenan Baynard, Joseph Hess (Angela), Kalah Hess Weaver (Matt), Emily Hess Lamb (Seth), Matthew Hess (Carissa), Tasha Lehman Skipper (Tez), Brianna Lehman Kauffman (Kyle), Micah Lehman (Kelsey), Zachary Lehman (Emily), Hannah Shultz, Jeremiah Shultz (Amanda), and Bethany Shultz; as well as 25 great-grandchildren. Alma is also survived by her brother Bob Gochenaur (Naomi) and sister Betty Gochenaur Rohrer (Keith). She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Molly Hess. Alma was an active member at Sunnyside Mennonite Church and in the local community, where she practiced her deep faith and shared the love of Jesus through acts of service. She supported her husband in pastoral ministry for many years and was later ordained as a deaconess. She was a gracious hostess, always thoughtful and kind. Together with Harold, they hosted many international students and families for weeks, sometimes even months, in their home. Her love for serving others extended to her volunteer work with Hospice and Eastern Mennonite Missions. A person of many interests and talents, Alma loved playing table games, particularly word games and puzzles. She treasured moments spent watching her grandchildren's athletic performances and other activities, a testament to her support and love for her family. Alma enjoyed traveling, including various mission trips, and gardening, often finding pleasure in the beauty of nature. Her most cherished moments, though, were spent with family and friends. Alma's life was defined not just by her activities but by the love and dedication she showed to others. Her greatest lessons were those of service, sharing the love of Jesus, and making others feel valued and loved. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A private burial for family and close friends will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, followed by visitation with the family at 10:00 a.m. and a memorial service at Strasburg Mennonite Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alma's memory to Eastern Mennonite Missions (450 N. Prince St., Lancaster, PA, 17603).
